Training

Miss Kumari completed her medical degree at Kasturba Medical College. She then completed specialist training in Ophthalmology, followed by fellowship training in Oculoplastic Surgery in Leicester. Her training also included placements at UCLA and Moorfields Eye Hospital.

She holds a CCT in Ophthalmology and is on the GMC Specialist Register for Ophthalmology, which is the highest standing for an ophthalmologist. Consultant ophthalmologists who are also fellowship trained in oculoplastic surgery are a small subspecialist group in the UK.

Experience

Miss Kumari is a Consultant Oculoplastic, Lacrimal and Orbital Surgeon at University Hospital Birmingham, where she is also the Clinical Service Lead for Ophthalmology.

She sees adults with concerns involving the eyelids, orbit (eye socket), lacrimal (tear) system and adjacent facial areas.

At Midland Skin, Miss Kumari provides eyelid and oculoplastic surgery, including blepharoplasty, ptosis correction and eyelid reconstruction. You can find out more about the eyelid surgery procedures offered at Midland Skin and why choose an oculoplastic surgeon here.

Additional information

Choosing an oculoplastic surgeon is particularly important for procedures around the eyes. Miss Kumari’s dual expertise in ophthalmology and eyelid plastic surgery means the health of the eye and the cosmetic result are considered together.

Miss Kumari works alongside the dermatology team at Midland Skin, so eyelid problems can be managed together with related skin concerns. This includes reconstruction of the eyelid after skin cancer surgery, such as Mohs surgery.
