Amberley is an Occupational Therapist and visible difference and scar care specialist, supporting people of all ages living with scars following injury, surgery and reconstructive procedures. She qualified from the University of Salford in 2011 and has over 15 years of clinical practice across adult and paediatric services, working in regional specialist NHS services throughout her career.

Training & Experience

Amberley supports adults and young people following traumatic injury, complex surgery and reconstructive procedures, from early recovery through to long-term support for scars and visible difference. Her expertise includes early and post-operative scar care, as well as the management of mature and complex scars, including those following laser treatment and reconstructive surgery. She also supports people with the emotional, practical and social impact of living with a visible difference.

She currently works in the NHS as Lead Occupational Therapist at the Regional Burns Service. She has completed specialist training in scar therapy and skin camouflage, alongside Master’s-level research study and a Clinical Academic Internship programme, and follows an evidence-based approach to practice. Amberley is the UK Burns Therapy Interest Group Lead, which holds a skin camouflage subgroup.

Amberley’s role at Midland Skin

Amberley is part of the Midland Skin multidisciplinary scar treatment team, providing specialist support for scars and visible difference.

Following your initial consultation, you may be referred to Amberley if occupational therapy scar care or support with visible difference is recommended. Your assessment findings and treatment priorities are shared with her, so that this support forms part of your wider treatment plan. Skin camouflage can also be booked with Amberley directly, without a consultant assessment first.

Amberley can offer:

  • Scar massage and tissue mobilisation
  • Scar taping and tension-reducing treatment options
  • Pressure therapy
  • Help with scar desensitisation
  • Skin camouflage
  • Advice on scar-care products and tools
  • Support with confidence and adjustment to visible difference
  • Personalised home treatment and self-care plans

Her input may be used on its own or alongside the medical, surgical and laser treatments recommended by the wider team.

An occupational therapy approach

Amberley combines specialist scar care with an understanding of what matters most to you. Treatment considers your scar or visible difference, including physical symptoms and appearance, as well as its impact on daily activities, independence, confidence, relationships and participation.

Her clinical experience has shown how effective scar management and visible difference support can help people recover after injury or surgery and take part in the activities and roles that are important to them.

At Midland Skin, Amberley provides individualised, non-invasive support for scars and visible difference, helping you develop the knowledge, techniques and confidence to manage your scar or visible difference at home and in everyday life.

Outside the clinic

In her own time, Amberley enjoys spending time with her family, travelling and taking long walks with her dog. She is also the current Chair of Burnaid, a charity supporting patients and families who have been treated at the burn centres in Birmingham.
