What is the background to developing Potent C skin care serum?

In the 20 years that I have been practising medicine, there has been an explosion in skin care products. It’s become so confusing for patients and consumers, and doctors alike! In an article I wrote on Non Surgical Aesthetic Rejuvenation of the Face, I stated:

A myriad of products is available on the market and this causes confusion for consumers and physicians alike.

There are so many questions –

  • Do you need a separate product in the day and at night?
  • Do you need different products for the eyes, face, neck and chest?
  • How many serums should you use?
  • Should you layer?
  • Which order should you layer them in?

It was my mission to create one simple product that was effective and could be used by both men and women who wanted to do the most they could for their skin – while keeping their skin care manageable.

I spent two years researching and combining the ingredients which I had been recommending to patients for over 15 years. Vitamin C is a key ingredient that should be in everyone’s regime. The ingredients which I had seen helped patients the most and had scientific evidence backing them.

Keeping skin care simple

Potent C Skin Care serum can be used twice a day with your usual cleanser, moisturiser and sun screen.

Once you have cleansed, apply Potent C to your skin, and then apply a moisturiser, make up, sun screen or nothing at all.

Potent C can be used on the eyelids, face, neck and chest. This means you don’t need separate products for each body area.

Unless there is an exceptionally good reason not to, everyone can benefit from using something with Vitamin C on their skin. Taking it in pill form is far less effective for your skin as the body removes it before it reaches the skin.

Clinical studies have supported that using Vitamin C after a minimum period of 6 months will lead to:

  1. Improved appearance of fine lines and wrinkles
  2. Less pigmentation – more even skin tone, fewer areas of unevenness, fewer dark patches
  3. Fewer signs of sun damage – less pigmentation and redness from sun exposure

How?

Vitamin C stops collagen in the skin from breaking down by being an antioxidant. It also boosts the production of new collagen.

It reduces the amount of melanin (skin pigmentation) made. It blocks the enzyme tyrosinase that is responsible for making new pigmentation.

It reduces sun-induced redness and sun-induced DNA damage.

It’s anti-inflammatory and reduces the build up of chemicals such as nuclear transcription factor kappa B (NFkB). Vitamin C can help conditions where inflammation is a problem such as rosacea, acne, and folliculitis.

This is a hardworking skin multitasker also known as nicotinaminde. On the skin it will:

  1. Hydrate it, make it feel softer and smoother, and reduce greasiness.
  2. Reduce pigmented blemishes

How?

Studies show that nicotinamide reduces the evaporation of water (even more than vaseline) and increases the ceramides (good fats), yet slows down grease (sebum) production. This is one of the few products out there that can do this super combination.

It reduces pigmentation. stopping melanin from spreading from outside the cells that make it.

It reduces NFK-beta and AP-1 so stops inflamed papules and pustules. Some studies show that nictinamide is as powerful as topical antibiotics

It stops glycation – sugar binding to proteins. This preserves proteins and reduces the yellowing of the complexion.
